Luyang Ma, MA

Biographical Note

Luyang Ma is a PhD student at the Chair of Science, Technology and Gender Studies (STGS) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), supervised by Professor Dr. Maria Rentetzi. Her research examines the intersections between macro-social structures, political power, and digital intimacy. Specifically, she seeks to develop a Political Economy of Emotion that integrates technology and affect by investigating how the phenomenon of Otome Games (female-oriented romance games) invites a sociological re-evaluation of emotion.

She holds an MA degree in Sociology from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Her MA research focused on the “right to repair,” exploring how ordinary individuals encounter expert knowledge systems in repair practices. Based on fieldwork, she analyzed the social factors that draw individuals into these systems and reflected on modernity from the perspective of everyday life.
